Michael’s Second Birthday

My baby isn’t quite a baby any more! I have had MANY a tear fall in the last few weeks, so you can know that I’m not crying as I write this.

He turned two…TWO on Monday. I can’t believe how big he’s getting…

I am fairly certain that this kid is the Energizer bunny and runs everywhere! He love his brother, babies, cars, and stuffed animals. He wants to be outside ALL DAY, but doesn’t care to be dirty. If he could wear only a diaper, he’d be thrilled!

For all his rough and tumble-ness, he LOVES a good snuggle, hugs, and will give sweet, little kisses. When he’s sad and cuddly, he will twirl your hair in his hand to calm himself.

Don’t ever grow up, little boy.

Baby Update | 12 Months

September 21, 2018…One year. 12 months. 52 weeks. 365 days. That’s how old our baby is! He is on the verge of toddlerhood. I can’t believe it!

For those of you who want to recap his first year…here you go! A quick look at the entire year.
Labor and Delivery
Month 1
Month 3
Month 6
Month 9

12 Months Statistics

Weight: 24 pounds and 6 ounces

Height: 30.4 inches

Head Circumference: 19.3 inches

This kid is ON. THE. MOVE! He is crawling, pulling himself up on furniture (and people), climbing the stairs, and LOVES to chase after the dogs! He’ll be walking soon enough!

Too soon, if you ask me and not soon enough for dad!

He has no problem telling you if he’s unhappy OR really excited and is getting the hang of “dancing” his little heart out! Even with all that energy, he will stop for a cuddle for a few minutes throughout the day and will sit on your lap, contentedly, while you read him books.

Waving hello and goodbye are some of his favorite things to do in public. He will yell at you and scowl if you pass him in the stroller and don’t say hi. Consider yourselves warned!

He has gotten the hang of brushing his 7 teeth and has 8 more teeth coming through…ALL at the same time. He had is first dental appointment on Monday, too. Overall, that went well…until he bit the dentist!

He’s making some big steps for a big little boy!

Happy birthday, little pal! Time, slow down!

Baby Update | Nine Months

9 Months Statistics

Weight: 21 pounds and 15 ounces

Height: 28.5 inches

Holy cow! This kid is GROWING!

His hair is getting really long and when damp, it’s starting to curl. It’s, also, getting REALLY light. I’m not sure if his hair is coming in blonde or just getting lighter because we are outside more.

He officially has 6 teeth, rolls around like a champ and wants to move SO badly! He’ll get up on his knees and rock, but that’s about it.

He still loves his food, especially peanut butter! Put a microscopic blob of peanut butter on anything and he WILL devour it.

He’s babbling (read: screaming) still and has started to say “ba ba ba” over and over again. He’s starting to refuse to be alone, so we’re trying to figure out how to handle that…

We’ve moved from two 2 hour naps plus an hour catnap to two 2 hour naps. I don’t even want to think of the day where we go down to one nap…that’s going to be such a SAD day!

It’s amazing the milestones he’s hitting!

Baby Update | Six Months

6 Months Statistics

Weight: 17 pounds and 5.5 ounces

Height: 27.5 inches

Happy half birthday to this little guy!

His hair is starting to grow back and that’s not all!

He is cutting 4 teeth, trying to roll from back to belly, and LOVES solid food in any form. Purées, hard pieces, soft foods, etc. He’ll eat just about anything…except bananas. M3 HATES bananas!

He’s babbling (read: screaming) and blowing raspberries more and more everyday, laughs when the dogs bark, and YELLS when you’re out of sight!

The 7 to 9 hours of sleep he was getting per night (plus three 2-hour naps) has turned into 11 to 12 hours of sleep! That’s right, I said it–11 to 12 hours every night (plus two 2-hour naps and one 1-hour nap)! Can I get a hallelujah?

It’s amazing the milestones he’s hitting!

Baby Update | 3 Months

Baby Three Month Statistics

Weight: 12 pounds, exactly

Height: 20 inches

This guy is THREE MONTHS already! Little boy is exactly that–a little boy! He just hit the 12 pound mark, on December 20th, and so far has barely grown in length. He’s still fitting into most 0-3 month clothes comfortably, with few exceptions. Even though he doesn’t gain weight very fast, he LOVES (I can’t emphasize this enough) LOVEShis bottle and screams when it’s empty!

His hair is still very dark, but is thinning out considerably. He looks like a little, balding old man. I LOVE IT! Those lovely little bald spots are because he’s sleeping about a 7-9 hour stretch at night, smiling like crazy, and is trying to laugh. His hands and feet are moving constantly and he’s finding his voice with little baby shrieks!

While he is MUCH happier than he was at his last update, he still can scream and cry like no other when he’s tired, overwhelmed, or his GERD flares up. He still has spit up episodes, but they have decreased significantly and we couldn’t be happier and more excited for him!

Update | Meet the Baby | One Month | Mom and Baby

Happy Halloween!
I can’t believe we are at the end of October already!

All attention has been focused on this little babe and it has been great! Hard, but great! We’ve been getting to know each other and settling in as a new little family of 3–and introducing him to the two newest set of grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, and uncles! Now, we are ready to officially introduce him to all of you!

Baby Birth Statistics

Name: Michael William, III
We aren’t sure what is nickname will be just yet. We do know that we would like to cut down on confusion as Grandpa, Dad, and he share the name and are all around each other quite frequently!

Birth Date and Time: September 21, 2018 at 1431

Weight: 7 pounds 10 oz

Height: 19 3/4 inches

Baby One Month Statistics

Weight: 8 pounds 6.6 oz

Height: 20 inches

At his one month date, he was still wearing newborn sized clothing and has TONS of dark hair! His eyes have gone from having hazel color to a deep blue.  He’s in between the newborn and size 1 diapers and squawks like a little dinosaur.

At the five and a half week mark, he is moving into 0-3 month clothing. They are still a bit big, but little boy is gaining weight!

This little guy has had a rough little start in his first month. A NICU stay because he was not breathing and could not keep his oxygen levels stable at birth. Then we had to go through jaundice therapy, blue spells, struggling to keep his weight up, GERD, and a milk protein intolerance/allergy. He’s a tough little guy who enjoys the baby sling, puppy kisses, stroller walks, the occasional swaddle, and being held upright!

Mom Postpartum Update

Weight: I struggle to admit it, but I weighed 218 pounds the morning I was induced. I was swollen, experiencing pre-eclampsia, and sick. Within 24 hours of giving birth, the swelling increased and (I assume) my weight did, too.

At the 2 week mark, I weighed 193.2 during the morning. At the 4 week mark, at the doctor’s office that afternoon, I weighed in at 194.4. I can NOT believe that within a month I lost almost 25 pounds. I especially can’t believe I’ve lost that without thinking about caloric intake or working out! I can’t wait to see what happens when I’m cleared for exercise.

Diet/Exercise: I have not done any exercising with the exception of a few family walks through the neighborhood. I have been using compression, postpartum jeans and leggings. When I’m not wearing them, I’m wearing the BellyBandit Original Belly Wrap at the recommendation of my doctor. I’m still getting used to wearing it and moving around, but am slowly starting to see results.

I have had to give up dairy, which is exceptionally hard, because we’re trying to rule out a milk protein allergy. I’m REALLY hoping that it doesn’t affect my supply too much and that we can continue on this journey.

Breastfeeding: I think I always assumed that I would produce enough for Baby to be satisfied and that it would be easy. During the day, we do just fine and he seems to be getting full. At night, however, I have to supplement the 2-3 feedings with a couple of ounces of formula. It’s a little discouraging, but him not going hungry is top priority!

I have also had to use a nipple shield almost from the get-go because of his bottle use during his NICU stay. This has been SO incredibly helpful!
