For Christmas, I gifted my husband an adults only trip to the mountains. I was equally excited and terrified all at once. Mr. Baby was a new 3 months old, had had some tough days, and we had never been away from him for more than a few hours. I cringe thinking about me thinking about that weekend.
We handed the baby to his grandparents, I wrote out every single detail I could think of, said goodbye a dozen times, and then we were on our way!
That first night I couldn’t stop thinking about all things Baby and was checking my phone several times a…minute (if we are being honest!). I woke up at midnight and 2AM thinking I heard him crying and then was up for the day at 6:30AM.
I spent that Saturday hanging out in the ski lodge bar with friends drinking, eating, and laughing. I kept looking down at the ground only to find an empty space where the carseat should have sat.
By 7PM, I was exhausted in a hangout, have fun, and no responsibilities kind of way. I was asleep by 8:30PM and didn’t wake up until 8:30AM. IT. WAS. GLORIOUS!
Our final day in the mountains, Sunday, was laidback and relaxing. We picked up the baby and dogs and were home by 4. On our way home, we committed to having a kid free weekend twice a year, but striving for once a quarter. Prior to having kids, I had heard people say that getting away for 48 hours was fantastic for themselves and their relationships, with both the kids and partner. I didn’t totally understand it, but now…oh boy! I’m already wanting to plan our next getaway.
Send me your thoughts on places to go and things to do! Also, does anyone send their child/children away for the weekend and just stay home? Or do you have someone come to the house to watch them and stay in a hotel in the same town?
As for photos of our mountain trip, I have none. Our phones barely worked and we were bundled up in coats and winter gear, so pulling out our phones wasn’t really thought of.
As for photos of the baby during our mountain trip? You better believe that I have those!
